Golf Datatech March Report – STROKES GAINED

Golf Digest STIX…April 30, 2014

IT’S EARLY, but Golf Datatech’s retail reports for March offer optimism for 2014. Major categories showed positive on- and off-course sales. Irons and wedges rose 11 percent and 31 percent, respectively, for the month in dollars, with putters and shoes also showing gains. Though ball sales were off slightly because of the rough winter, the biggest revenue decline came in metalwoods. Unit sales rose slightly, but dollars fell 7 percent. Putters saw the reverse: down in units but up in revenue by 8 percent. Golfers also seem to be more serious about putter purchases. The average selling price for a new putter ($157) is the highest it has been, up 10 percent versus last March. —Mike Stachura
