Weather Hits Golf Apparel in January

The retail sales data for the US golf apparel market is published today by Golf Datatech.
US January 2024 Total Apparel Market (On-Off Course)
On-Off Course January ’24 vs ’23: Dollars -19.3%
On-Off Course January ’24 vs ’19: Dollars % +19.4%
Summary
As the majority of golf apparel is sold through ‘green shops’, the poor weather across much of the US negatively impacted apparel sales during January 2024.
While every category of apparel was lower in January 2024 compared to 2023, it is worth noting that January 2023 was the largest January in the history of Golf Datatech reporting – and by a wide margin (17% higher than any other January).
On the latest results, Golf Datatech co-founder John Krzynowek said, “Golf Apparel got off to a particularly difficult start in 2024. Sales were off over 19% for the month, and every category was in freefall. The combination of poor January weather in much of the nation, combined with comparisons to an all time high January in 2023, made for some dismal results in golf apparel.”
