July 2024 retail sales of golf apparel continue to lag behind 2023 levels, with both the On and Off course channels down.
After sustained growth thru June of 2023, combined golf apparel sales have dropped in 10 of the past 12 months and the category is struggling to find a bottom. Even though the number of people playing the game regularly continues to indicate a very healthy base, both apparel and equipment have hit a bit of a rough patch: down on the prior year but still well above where we stood pre-pandemic.
Summary Results
Total golf retail sales of apparel were down 7.1% for the month of July 2024 and are down 9.0% YTD. However, when compared to 2019, YTD sales are up 42.8%
Women’s Tops (+11.1%) and Outerwear (+4.1%) were the only categories with sales improvements in July, while the most significant declines were in Women’s Bottoms (-18.4%), Women’s Shirts (-14.2%) and Men’s Shirts (-9.1%).
