Small Slump for September Rounds Played Data

The latest Golf Datatech National Rounds Played Report with results for September 2022 is out now.

The three-page report contains year over year results for eight regions, all states and several metropolitan areas.  US rounds were down -1.7% for September 2022 and down -2.5% YTD when compared to September 2021.

As the golf season winds down around in many of the northern markets, September is one of the last of the big months for rounds played in the US.  And while rounds for the month were down slightly (-1.7%), YTD rounds improved slightly and are only down 2.5% vs. 2021.

Florida had a particularly difficult September, hit by substantial poor weather, including the pain and suffering caused by Hurricane Ian on the west coast.  Because Ian hit at the end of the month, the full scale of the impact will be spread across more than just September and will likely be felt for the rest of the year

California also had a challenging month in September, with every metro market in the state down vs. 2021.

On the latest figures, Golf Datatech partner John Krzynowek said, “Rounds continue to be healthy even in the face of economic uncertainty and life returning to normal after two and a half years of fighting the pandemic.  Undoubtedly, the last quarter of the year will be even more challenging, as the northern markets close for the winter and golf rounds get concentrated in a few select areas where the weather allows year round play.  The hardships faced in Naples/Fort Myers and Orlando will continue to create a drag on rounds in Florida as golf courses and citizens dig out from the extreme damage caused by Ian”.
